‘Dots Obsession - New Century’, 2000 - Yayoi Kusama
11 balloons, vinyl dots
Went to see Kusama’s work in Tate Modern… was pretty amazing but some I found quite boring. Her full room installations were pretty amazing especially when its just millions and millions of the same things over and over again… dots, postage labels, airmail labels etc… and a room of lights and mirrors which made me completely confused at where the lights actually were! brilliant.
++ORLY COGAN
“Orly Cogan’s work ranges from two-dimensional wall pieces to installations and photography, exploring the conventions of femininity through stitching into vintage fabrics. Her pieces are like pages of a sketchbook full of drawings which Cogan explores through more contrived compositions verging on fantasy. Embroidered female forms interact with each other and discreet objects, exploring feminine archetypes such as the Madonna/whore, the femme fatale and the beauty queen. Cogan plays with feminine sexuality and perspective, allegorical and abject in her narrative.”

From cubism to strangism, TOMMERVIK brings the abstract to the modern world of pop culture icons where they have lots of unprotected mashings-together.

I wanted to create something powerful and shocking. I am so used to using childhood and innocence for photography subjects I wanted to shock people with our next college exhibition. I have created these photographs with bullying and isolation in mind after looking at the work of Susannah Benjamin. I hope to take more in this set with a strong contrast between the black and the white clothing. These photos will be presented along side the poem Imagine A World by Andrea Wilson & the lyrics by Shinedown - Bully as these photographs are responses to these texts - Yentl-Rose Hayter
+I looked at Gina Glovers work and her set ‘pathways to memory’ where she studies things that remind her of childhood in her special garden. I wanted to create something much like this to do with being a child and distant memories.
